    Evening Skincare Routine

The winter months are harsh on any skin, the rain, snow and wind leaving your complexion dry and cracked. I’ve always been in a good routine with my skin, for my eczema, but even more so this time of year! My current night time routine soothes and hydrates my skin and allows it to repair overnight so I wake up refreshed and ready for the day ahead! I start my routine with my Body Shop Chamomile Cleanser or Dermalogica Ultra Calming Cleanser and Soap & Glory Cleansing Tool to remove all my makeup and dry skin that has built up throughout the day. I’m careful to ensure I don’t use…

    Summer Skincare Favourites

I have discovered a few new skincare favourites lately, through Birchbox, brands very kindly gifting me products and through recommendations from friends. They’re all great for dry and sensitive skin, although there are a couple I avoid if my eczema is actively flaring. But other than that I’ve found a routine I’m really happy with and providing the eczema doesn’t reappear on my face I think i’ll be good for a while! Dr Botanicals Pomegranate Superfood Mask This is my newest discovery, I got it in a recent Birchbox and it smelt amazing so I wanted to try it out straight away. It’s absolutely divine, feels really luxurious on the…

    Spring skincare picks

Spring is here (kind of) and I’ve changed up my skincare routine to keep my skin hydrated, dewy and as clear as possible. The medication I’m on at the moment means my eczema is pretty much kept at bay, so the skincare products i’m using are actually doing good things for my skin, and apart from a couple of minor flare ups my skin is the best it’s been for months. So, here are the skincare products I’ve been loving! Dermalogica Ultra Calming Cleanser I feature this in my winter skincare picks and I’m still loving it. As it says on the bottle, it’s ultra calming, which is really important…

    March Birchbox review

So the March Birchbox is here and it’s got me all ready for spring! Here’s what I got, and my first impressions of this months box. Smith & Cult lip lacquer I got this as a free gift for a referring a friend, worth £21, it’s perfect as a lip topper, or on its own. It leaves my lips with a glossy finish and I think will be a summer staple in my collection. Nice little gift to receive! Rituals The Ritual of Sakura Foaming Shower Gel I find the one product I have to be careful with on my sensitive skin is shower gel. And unfortunately this product left…

    Methotrexate; 8 week update

So the first four weeks seemed to go past just fine, my skin healed amazing and I generally felt well. However I think some of the listed side effects have began to kick in now that i’m at week 8. How my skin is feeling I had my first flare since taking Methotrexate. It was during the ‘Beast from the East’ storm, and my skin couldn’t handle the -5° temperature outside and then the 30° from the office heating. The change was just too much and I flared. However I got it under control quickly so it didn’t worry me too much. Other than that my skin is doing really…

    Anatomicals review

The very lovely team at Anatomicals sent me a selection of their face masks to try and review! I’ve always had to be careful what I apply to my face because of my skin issues but I loved the sound of their range and was excited to try them out. I tried the deep cleansing mud mask, as i’ve had a few breakouts recently. The consistency of the mask is really thick, and has a luxurious feel as you apply it. After 10/15 the mask has tried but what I love is it was easy to take off. I’ve tried a lot of mud masks that make such a mess…

Eczema update: New medication and flare cycles

After a year of pretty much always in a flared state I finally get referred to the dermatologist at the end of 2017. Initially he sent me away with a huge bag of creams and an appointment for a blood test, aimed at testing anything and everything that could possibly be causing my flare ups. I had my follow up appointment last week and the only thing my blood test showed was that my immunoglobulin levels were high, not outrageously high, but high enough that he thought a course of immunosuppressants were needed. He prescribed me Methotrexate to treat the eczema and Folic Acid, to counter act any possible side…
