The truth about living with eczema

I’ve written a lot of posts about my eczema in the last couple of years, but as I sit here currently going through the worst flare up i’ve experienced in two years I thought I would share exactly what it’s like to live with the condition. No filters, no lies, a complete list of everything I have experienced. Eczema is… Pain, physical and debilitating pain. Cracking, weeping, bleeding skin Ruining endless items of clothing and bedding No sleep, I consider having four hours a good night Literally not being comfortable in any way shape or form Having to take sick days from work So damn expensive…I could probably open a…

    My Eczema Journey; An Update

I haven’t done an eczema update in quite a while, mostly because not a lot had been happening, well until this week anyway! I’ll start giving a short history of my journey so far, in case you haven’t been here before. The Worst Flare I’ve had eczema all my life, and other than when I was a kid it was fairly under control. In 2017 something changed and I began experiencing the worst flare ups I had ever had. I was constantly stuck in a cycle of flaring, barely going a few days without some part of my body being swollen, itchy and weeping. I tried every moisturiser under the…

Managing my skin condition while travelling

One of the main things I was worried about before travelling to Canada was how my eczema would cope. A change in weather, hotel bedding that’s been cleaned with strong detergents, tiredness, anxiety and anything and everything that could trigger a flare. There were a few things that I did to keep my eczema at bay, thankfully I only suffered with a couple of minor flare days, and considering how bad my skin got last time I went on holiday I was feeling pretty grateful! Preparation Before I went away I got a list together of everything I might need to combat my eczema should it flare up. Creams, medications,…

    Skincare review: AproDerm

Over the last few years I have tried, I don’t even know how many, moisturisers to try and combat the dry and itchy skin that comes with eczema. Most of them were so thick and heavy that rather than absorbing into the skin they sat on top and left me hot and itchy, and well then I’d scratch and yeah, it’s a vicious circle. The team at AproDerm recently got in touch, and sent me a whole range of their eczema skincare products to try out. I received the Colloidal Oat Cream, Emollient Cream and Gel, and I’ve been testing them out for the last couple of weeks.    …

    Methotrexate; 15 week update

So we’re here at week 15 and it seems like the progression has come to a halt. I’ve flared twice in the last couple of weeks and although they haven’t been as bad as my skin was before the treatment I’m still suffering. I think my recent flare was caused by a night of drinking prosecco and sambuca, which isn’t ideal seeing as I’m going on a hen do in a couple of weeks and want to be able to enjoy a glass or few of bubbly. So we’ll see on that topic and assess my skin when the time comes. In terms of side effects they seemed to have…

    Spring skincare picks

Spring is here (kind of) and I’ve changed up my skincare routine to keep my skin hydrated, dewy and as clear as possible. The medication I’m on at the moment means my eczema is pretty much kept at bay, so the skincare products i’m using are actually doing good things for my skin, and apart from a couple of minor flare ups my skin is the best it’s been for months. So, here are the skincare products I’ve been loving! Dermalogica Ultra Calming Cleanser I feature this in my winter skincare picks and I’m still loving it. As it says on the bottle, it’s ultra calming, which is really important…

    Methotrexate; 8 week update

So the first four weeks seemed to go past just fine, my skin healed amazing and I generally felt well. However I think some of the listed side effects have began to kick in now that i’m at week 8. How my skin is feeling I had my first flare since taking Methotrexate. It was during the ‘Beast from the East’ storm, and my skin couldn’t handle the -5° temperature outside and then the 30° from the office heating. The change was just too much and I flared. However I got it under control quickly so it didn’t worry me too much. Other than that my skin is doing really…
